Maribor- Day 1

This morning we woke up, ate breakfast at the hotel dras, and packed all our stuff up so that we could move to the new place where we would stay for the next couple nights or something. We aren't quite sure how long our stay will be. Evidently the volleyball teams here are preparing for nationals and the dras center is one of the best places to practice. (They reserved all the rooms in the dras center for these teams) So teams come from all over the place to play. This is the nederlands junior team. Or something. We sat and watched them practice for a bit. Then we decide to get to our new hotel because I was just aching for a shower- I won't mention how long it had been since I had showered.
Evidently, Slovenians are miserable direction givers because we had to ask almost fifteen other people- ok I guess it was more like five people how to get to the hotel aria where we were supposed to stay. After three people we figured out that it was actually the hotel arena. Finally one lady went outside the hotel dras and pointed to it and we were able to understand where we were supposed to go. Halfway there, I was super grateful I had only packed one little carry on bag because that hill is a beast. We got up to the hotel and they told us that the room wasn't ready. It was 1000 and it wouldn't be ready till 1400. We had all our bags and I still needed to desperately take a shower.

We decided to drop off our stuff decided to find the bus stop. After we asked six more people, we were given a map that actually showed us the area. We got to the bus stop and waited for a lite bit.

At 1210, jvdnvjrj (that's the name if the bus driver) showed up. We got right up to pay and then jvdnvjrj pushed us off and insisted that we couldn't board. "I need smoke first." Five minutes later we were on our way to the city.

It's pretty simple to get into the bus, but you never really know when to get off. We just rode the bus till we started seeing shops all around. We also crossed the river and it looked really picturesque so we stopped to take a picture. "We" meaning my roommate Alicia and I.
I think it's great that this little shack has everything printed in English as if they know that only the foreigners are going to want the vegan stuff. Nathan I totally thought if you when I saw this. You can add this menu to you vegan lifestyle.

Mcdonalds was on our lunch menu just to see how it compares to American food. There were signs all over the place , but they kept leading is in circles. I started thinking that this church was actually supposed to be the mcdonalds- like maybe they had made some sort of agreement with them.

Mcdonalds was super good. Tasted more fresh than I remember. There were a couple new items- like a veggie burger and zjulfyfrz fries.
And if course we got gelato, like everyone else in Slovenia. Pretty sure 2/3 of the people on the street were eating some. We found a shack that spoke English and taste tested a couple. Evidently they don't normally offer samples so I don't know what the sample spoons were for. I knew that we had "stupid Americans" written all over our foreheads.the gelato was good. I got apple and nugget flavored yumminess.
For dinner we went to a pizza place and I ordered the bruschetta pizza. Just the simple style with arugula and tomatoes. Delish
We were instructed that the fitness center was on floor -1. I had flashbacks to teaching math and was immediately grateful for my new circumstance. I would not wish to be anywhere else.

I found this sign on the sauna in the hotel. I'm impressed that they expect all their sauna goers to wear modest swimsuits instead of bikinis.
