Sok Sikert!

Last Thursday, I was eating Makos Guba and I was reminded of my first day here in Hungary since this was the first food I ate in the country.

When I think back on that time, I am still in shock that I was one of the few Americans that got picked up to play on a team. I remember getting into the mini van with Adam and Misi, two people that are no longer strangers to me.

Tomorrow we will have one of our last games. The Hungarian Championship is played a lot like the NBA except instead of playing the best of seven games in a series, we play the best of five games. So far, we have two wins and Vasas (that's the other team) has one win. So if we win tomorrow, the championship will be over. Otherwise, the last game will be played on Friday.

The first match, played in Budapest, includes a pregame warmup of climbing these stairs. This first match, we played together as a team. It was a tough, though, with five sets. We were down 4-11 in the fifth set and with Kicsi serving, we managed to cut that gap and win the match.

Before the second match in Bekescsaba, we had a press conference with some important people (I'm not entirely sure who they were). Those bleachers were all full at our game! And on both sides.

That match we won in three sets and afterwards, the fans dumped a ton of confetti all over the Vasas team. We are really grateful for the awesome support that we have at our games.

After this match, we celebrated with American pancakes thanks to the generosity of Ali and Jill.

With spring now here, the city has really come alive (during the daytime). The streets are full of people biking or walking around. The warmth has given me extra motivation to be outside.

These pictures are from the Medieval Festival (Békéscsabai Vitéyi Játékok).

It was fun to walk around and see all the people dressed up in their costumes. I arrived just in time to see the King and Queen enter the courtyard.

I stayed a little while to watch them show off all their weapons.

The circus came to town and Ali, Ivana, and I went together. We had front row seats, which was awesome!

It's been quite a few years since I have seen the circus. I don't remember there being much animal riding and acrobatics. It was much more exciting here than I remembered.

Unfortunately the front row seats came along with a close encounter with tiger urine.

At the FEK, I have been trying everything on the menu that I haven't eaten yet.

This includes fish soup. Unfortunately, it tasted like fish so it wasn't my favorite.

But this Kale cassarole (Rakott kelkaposzta) was super good

Gizzard Stew- I'm afraid I am still not a fan of the gizzard. The texture is a little different

Ribs! Super good! And then hamburgers- an awesome pre-practice meal.
